This week I have a new piece of gear that is GREAT for all Mages and probably some Locks too (but instead of helping them get it, kill them).

The Meteor Chaser’s Raimentis a 264 Chest Peice that is purchased with 95x Emblem of Frost.

The Stats:

  • +354 Armor
  • +123 Stamina
  • +123 Intellect
  • +84 Critical Strike
  • +108 Haste
  • +162 Spell Power
  • +1 Blue Socket
  • +1 Yellow Socket
  • +1 Red Socket

Now I know what you are saying, and yes you are correct, that is one BEAST piece of gear. Three sockets is just AWSOME.

Mag'hari Chieftain's Staff

The Mag’hari Chieftain’s Staffis one of the best staffs for Arcane Mages in the game right now. There are a couple that will grant you better stats, but the look of this thing is just awesome. Plus, the heroic version has 3 gem slots. Here is the breakdown for the stats:

  • +97 Stamina
  • +101 Intellect
  • +136 Spirit
  • +136 Haste
  • +657 Spell Power
  • + 2 BLUE Gem Sockets (+7 Spell Power socket bonus)

Heroic Version:

  • +105 Stamina
  • +111 Intellect
  • +150 Spirit
  • +150 Haste
  • +741 Spell Power
  • +3 BLUE Gem Sockets (+9 Spell Power socket bonus)

While the sockets are cool it would of coarse be better if the sockets where red. However using these with 2 Purified Dreadstoneswill cover the 2 blue socketed gems needed for the Chaotic Skyflare Diamondto work. While I may be in the minority on this one, I believe Intricate Eye of Zul could benefit you as well for now… We will see once the stat system changes for Cataclysm.

Getting this staff will be easy for geared players who are familiar with the fight against Deathbringer Saurfang. This item is found in the 10 man normal version of the Deathbringer’s Cache. The heroic version is obviously found in the heroic 10 man version.

Chalice of Benedictus

The Chalice of Benedictus is one of the better off-hand items for mages (particularly Arcane). Here is the break down of the stats:

  • +51 Stamina
  • +48 Intellect
  • +37 Hit
  • +45 Haste
  • +69 Spell Power
  • +1 YELLOW Socket with a +5 Spell Power Socket Bonus.

I know some mages are particular about either having a one handed weapon and an off hand item and some want a staff intead. Me, I just want whatever can do the following three things: improve my stats the most, loook the coolest, kill the most warlocks.

This particular off hand item is great, even the non-heroic level 232 version. It is one of the only off-hand items that has a socket open. The fact that the socket is yellow is somewhat of a pain, but it can be used quite effectively. If you are a Jewelcrafter you can place a +39 Spell Powered Runed Dragon’s Eye in there. If you are not a JC and you want something with pure spell power you will be limited to a Runed Cardinal Ruby, giving you +23 Spell Power.

Don’t assume that red gems will always give you the best spell power. Using a Reckless Ametrine will give you +12 Spell Power and +10 Haste, netting you a +5 Spell Power Socket Bonus as well. If you have even one other yellow socket or red socket to fill with another Reckless Ametrine you will get 1 spell power more then socketing a a Runed Cardinal Ruby and a Quick King’s Amber.

Getting this isn’t going to be too hard either if you have been working on your gear. This drops at a low 7% from Eydis Darkbane in the 10 man version of the Trial of the Crusader.  The heroic version (level 245) will give you 7 more Stamina, 7 more intellect, 6 more hit, 6 more haste, and 11 more spell power.
